Brighton & Hove Albion Women's Football Club started life as GPO Ladies but a sponsorship deal with C&C Sports in 1987 led to a name.
In 1990, the team was invited to become a part of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and changed its name accordingly.
Support from the community scheme brought with it significant growth and at the height of its success the women's club had three senior (women's) teams and five junior (girls') teams.
In 1997, the club's contribution to the development of women's and girls' football was recognised by the Football Association when it was asked to host a Centre of Excellence programme.
The programme continues today and is one of just 30 centres licensed by the Football Association to provide training opportunities for players that show elite potential.
Albion Community Women was formed in the summer of 2008 with an aim to create a fully inclusive programme providing appropriate playing opportunities for players aged 16 years plus.
The team were entered into the Sussex County Women's Football League, and finished in a mid-table position.
The following season, and under the guidance of manager, Paul Tubb, coach Greg Cross and general assistant Karen Tubb the team finished second and earned promotion to the South East Counties Women's Football League.
In addition, the team won the Sussex County FA Women's Challenge Trophy beating Burgess Hill 3-2 (aet) in the final.
The team enjoyed further success the following season when they won the South East Counties Women's Football League West Division but narrowly missed out on the double losing on penalties to Hassocks on penalties in the League Cup Final.
Having won back-to-back promotions, Albion Community Women will this season compete in the South East Counties Women's Football League Premier Division along with; Anchorians, Bexhill United, Chichester 2nds, Crawley Wasps Reserves, Dartford, Hassocks, Haywards Heath, London Corinthians and Meridian.
