Martin's Stadium Blog: LSC Update

Posted on: Fri 23 Jan 2009

By Martin Perry, Stadium Project Manager

Following recent press coverage, I would like to assure our supporters the announcement by the Learning & Skills Council concerning funding for College projects will not affect the stadium funding or timescale.

Many of our fans will have seen either the report on the front page of yesterday's Argus, or the announcement by the LSC that it has imposed a short period of re-evaluation on funding applications for college developments.

It is no surprise that the LSC want to take stock of the situation. They have been inundated with applications from all over the country and now they have to decide which projects must be given priority and this will be beneficial to our project.

The criteria the LSC will use will be about which schemes deliver the most benefit and these will be moved to the top of the pile. Our partnership project with City College is totally unique and has been described by the LSC as one of the best in the country. It delivers huge benefits to the Local Community and will therefore be one of those which is given priority.

City College have already been positively reassured by the LSC this week that their project is not threatened. The proposals are well advanced and on track.

MEANWHILE I WOULD LIKE to like to thank outgoing Brighton & Hove Council chief executive Alan McCarthy - who has announced his retirement. He has been a major supporter of all that we have tried to achieve over the thirteen years we have worked with him - I first met him in 1996 when Dick and I started working together. On behalf of all Albion fans I thank him for all that he has done for the club over the years.

We look forward to the appointment of a new chief executive, and working with him or her and the rest of the City Council on the road to Falmer.
