Albion's 'housekeeping' application for the new stadium has been given the green light by Brighton & Hove City Council.
The council's planning committee debated the club's proposed amendments to the stadium plans this afternoon, before siding overwhelmingly in favour of the changes. Ten of the twelve members of the committee voted in favour, with two abstentions.
The application includes new plans to deposit the chalk from the excavation of the Falmer site on to Village Way South, a complete redesign of the stadium interior and changes to the roof.
Work on the surrounding infrastructure has already commenced on the site, but today's ruling by the council means that construction of the stadium can now begin in earnest.
A thrilled Martin Perry told seagulls.co.uk, "This is another massive step forward for the club, and we are delighted the council has supported the application.
"We have enjoyed strong support from Brighton & Hove City Council throughout, and this means we can move forward with the main construction in April.
"We're on our way to Falmer!"
