Albion's 'house-keeping' planning application, relating to the stadium changes and chalk re-profiling, has been recommended for approval by council officers. The final decision will be taken by the city council's planning committee next Wednesday, 4th February.

Albion Chief Executive Martin Perry said, "This is another very important step for the club, if the councillors take that recommendation and grant permission for our stadium changes application, that will mean we will be in a position to commence work on the main stadium construction as planned in April of this year.

"We are grateful for the hard work put in by Planning Officers at Brighton & Hove City Council to get this to committee so quickly. Another major hurdle cleared on the road to Falmer."

The report states: 'This report considers a revised application for a Community Stadium which comprises two distinct parts. The first part of the application proposes revisions to the approved Community Stadium whilst the second part proposes re-contouring the land south of Village Way using the chalk spoil from the excavations for the stadium.

'The proposed revisions to the Stadium comprise modifications to the roof and to the arch on the West and East Stands and elevational amendments. The proposal will increase the floorspace in the Stadium by 9607 sq metres of which 3316 sq metres is useable internal floorspace and the rest concourses.'

It recommends that councillors be 'minded to grant' permission when they meet next week. Fans can still write in support of the application, but letters must be sent as soon as possible, and must be received by the city council not later than next Tuesday.
