Ryan is a product of the Albion youth set-up, graduating in the summer 2010. He impressed enough for boss Gus Poyet to offer him a one-year deal as a professional. He played an active part in the 2010 pre-season friendlies and showed enough quality to be named on the first-team bench, during their 2-0 Carling Cup defeat at Northampton Town in August 2010.
