Hailing from Leytonstone, Jamie Smith arrived on trial in June 2009, having been released by Crystal Palace the previous may. A diminutive midfielder with a good engine and impressive range of passing skills, the Londoner impressed during his trial period and was handed a one-year deal by Russell Slade ahead of the 2009/10 season. He has since impressed Gus Poyet and was offered another one-year deal in the summer 2010.
