Steve made his first team debut while still a youth team scholar, coming on as a substitute in the Carling Cup victory against Manchester City in September 2008. A full-back or centre-half, Steve earned a one-year pro contract in the summer of 2009. That contract was extended by Gus Poyet during the summer 2010.
