Michael Poke joined the club in the summer of 2010 on a Bosman free transfer. The 6ft 1ins former Southampton stopper caught the eye of manager Gus Poyet while on loan at Torquay United, where he helped the Gulls win promotion from the Blue Square Premier via the playoffs in 2009 and played a major role in helping them maintain their League Two status the following season.
