Shane joined the Seagulls during the January transfer window until the end of the 2007/08 season. A trainee at Notts County, Shane burst into the Magpies first team aged just 17, going on to make over 30 appearances at Meadow Lane before moving to US 'A' League side Virginia Beach Mariners in 2005. He returned to his native Ireland in 2007 with University College Dublin, and has since been capped for the Republic of Ireland under-21 side.
