After being turned down by Leyton Orient, Gary was famously signed by then-Brighton boss Brian Horton for a £1000 plus a set of playing kit in 1998, from Essex League Stansted. Gary has been arguably one of the best-value buys in the club's history. Initially starting out as a forward, he finished joint top scorer in his first season. However, he has subsequently shown he can operate on the right wing, and at right-back. He has now played more than 300 games for Albion and won three promotions in 2001, 2002 and 2004.
