Albion left Cumbria empty handed again afterCarlisle ended a run of 13 games without a win this afternoon.
A brace from Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and another from Cleveland Taylor gave the home side their third straight victory against the Seagulls here as the Micky Adams's men misfired in Cumbria.
Carlisle started brightly, and Danny Graham was probably so surprised by the amount of space he had at the far post that the striker scuffed his shot and Adam El-Abd gratefully cleared off the line.
Glenn Murray, returning to his old stomping ground, then stretched to meet a dangerous cross from Matt Richards but was inches shy of getting the necessary touch. Joe Ayninsah, also back on familiar territory was then denied by a terrific tackle from Richard Keogh after the midfielder had robbed Paul Thirlwell on the edge of the area.
Albion were beginning to enjoy a few interchanges; Bradley Johnson almost got around the back of Ben Alnwick but Stuart Fleetwood's pass left him too much to do and the Carlisle keeper was able to block.
Fleetwood himself then had a golden chance after Murray's back-heel had given Anyinsah chance to clip in a cross but the striker couldn't keep his header under the bar.
Then, against the run of play, Carlisle took the lead. Michel Kuipers could only parry a fierce drive from David Raven, and when Graham Kavanagh returned the ball low into the near post, Bridge-Wilkinson arrived perfectly to turn the ball over the line.
With five minutes to go before the break Graham might have doubled Carlisle's lead, but scooped his chance over the bar after Taylor had done well on the right.
Simon Hackney also had a chance on the break after an Albion attack had broken down, but the midfielder sliced his shot wide under pressure from El-Abd and Tommy Elphick.
And in first-half stoppage time Carlisle finally got their second goal, and it was almost identical to the first. This time it was Graham crossing low from the right, and Taylor stroking the ball home from close range.
Carlisle looked far from a side bereft of confidence, and had Albion pinned back from the off after the interval. The livewire Hackney came close on two occasions, his second effort only just deflecting past the far post.
It was no surprise then, when the impressive Bridge-Wilkinson burst into the penalty area in the 55th minute after a one-two with Graham to blast the ball into the roof of the net and put Carlisle three up.
Matt Richards stemmed the flow and gave Albion some hope when his deflected shot beat Alnwick from 20 yards, but Carlisle could well have got a fourth had Kuipers not saved well at point-blank range to deny Michael Liddle.
Albion put Carlisle under some pressure as time ran out, but Alnwick's tip over from Tom Fraser's free-kick was the closest they really came.
