Albion are through to the third round of the Sussex Senior Cup, after a 3-1 win in an entertaining game at Loxwood, where Anton Rodgers hit a brace and Jamie Smith was also on target  for the Seagulls.

A young Albion side - which included first starts for youth team trio Rob Hunt, Calum Sherriff and Ryan Cooper - put in a professional shift against the plucky part-time County League division two side, who did themselves proud in the biggest night in the club's history.

Albion dominated possession and spectators did not have to wait long for the first goal when Rodgers opened the scoring inside ten minutes

Jamie Smith danced through the Loxwood defence before squaring the ball to the former Chelsea scholar on the 18-yard line and he drilled the ball into the top left corner.

Albion almost doubled their lead moments later and Rodgers provided Smith with a one-on-one opportunity but the Magpies keeper Sam Smith turned the shot round his left post.

Rodgers doubled his tally, and Albion's lead when he scored after 29 minutes. He played the ball in to Jake Forster-Caskey whose clever back-heel provided Rodgers with the opportunity to pass the ball into the net.

Home keeper Smith impressed with a string of smart saves, the pick of the bunch to keep out strikes from Forster-Caskey and Torbjorn Agdestein.

Smith put the game beyond doubt when he scored a third on the brink of half-time. He received a short corner and dribbled across the 18-yard box before beating his namesake at the near post.

Norwegian striker Agdestein had further chance to extend the lead in the second half but again home keeper Smith stood up to the challenge in the Loxwood goal.

The home side threatened to set-up an exciting climax when Rob Hunt brought down Jude Nwachukwu and Ben Bissett scored from the spot with 15 minutes remaining. Claude Pett also hit the post for home side, with a volley minutes late on but Albion stayed composed to see out the win.

The only down side coming with skipper Yaser Kasim being show a red card for dissent in the 90th minute, while Rodgers was denied his hat-trick when his late penalty was saved by the outstanding Smith.

Albion: (4-4-2) Brezovan; Sampayo (MacFarlane 70), Sherriff, Cooper, Hunt; Kasim, Forster-Caskey (Hayward 62), Rodgers, Jamie Smith; Barker (Goodwin 62), Agdestein. Subs not used: East (GK).
