Albion will be holding a bucket collection at Withdean on Saturday in aid of a planned memorial dedicated to the memory of the 17th Middlesex Battalion - The Footballer's Battalion.
Albion in the Community director Steve Ford and a number of his colleagues will be positioned around the ground before and during the game against MK Dons, to take donations from fans.
Currently, there is no memorial in the UK or on the Western Front recognising the sacrifices made by the Footballer's Battalions - two units of professional footballers almost completely wiped out during the First World War.
The collection will have extra poignancy for the Seagulls with 16 former players having served in the Battalion: Jasper Matthews Batey, George Beech, William Booth, Franklin Charles Buckley, Charles Dexter, John Doran, Frederick Goodwin, William Henry Jones, William Middleton, Bill Miller, Archibald Needham, Ralph Routledge, Frank Spencer, Alfred John Tyler, Robert Whiting and George Wilcock.
Albion manager Gus Poyet told seagulls.co.uk, "The football club is very proud to support the Footballer's Battalion and feel that it is extremely important to have a memorial for all the men who gave their lives for the country.
"Albion had several players involved in the Battalion and the Armed Forces are still close to the heart of the Club. We hope fans will be able to donate any spare cash they have on Saturday to support this extremely worthwhile cause."
Phil Stant, Football League Youth Development Officer (Midlands), who is spearheading the campaign, added, "The men that died in that Battalion have no memorial; there is nothing physical thanking them for the sacrifices they made.
"It's crucial that we raise money for this project and I am delighted that Brighton and Hove Albion have decided to participate, so I would like to thank them and their supporters in advance for their efforts."
