Poyet Relishing Selection Headache

Gus Poyet says he is looking forward to having a selection headache when Albion get back into action in ten days' time against MK Dons.

The Seagulls crashed out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy following a 2-0 defeat to Leyton Orient, and the Albion boss is keen to freshen up the side.

The Uruguayan will have Gordon Greer available again after suspension, plus new signings Fran Sandaza, Kazenga LuaLua, and Norweigan prospect Torbjorn Agdestein.

Poyet told seagulls.co.uk, "Now people are going to start getting upset and that is what I like.

"There is only one way for people to get their way into the team, and that is by playing their best football.

"The players need to show what they can do when they are on the pitch and if they don't produce they will not be playing.

"I have said in the past that every manager has got their preferred players, but all the players need to pick themselves. It's very rare that I won't select a player that deserves to play."

Poyet was left ruing defensive frailties and missed chances against Orient, as Russell Slade and Dean Cox enjoyed a triumphant return to Withdean.

"They scored two goals and we didn't score any. There is no drama going forward because we had a lot of chances, but they kept a clean sheet and we didn't.

"At the moment we are not defending the way that we should be, and at set-pieces we have got to mark our man.

"At the other end it didn't go our way in front of goal. There is no better opportunity than to score a penalty. You can see everything in front of you, but you have got to beat the goalkeeper but tonight their keeper [Jamie Jones] made the save."

However, Poyet was satisfied with Liam Bridcutt's man-of-the-match performance on his Albion debut.

"He started well and he made two or three key passes early in the game, but then he maybe tried too hard to force a pass when I wanted him to keep the ball. But it was a good debut and I'm very pleased with him.

"I'm also very happy with the three substitutes tonight because they all showed great attitude; Jamie Smith, Chino [Cristian Baz], and Gary Hart were all spot on. They really pushed the game forward and did everything for us to try and score."
