It may be past the 6pm deadline, but Gus Poyet still expects to secure a striker ahead of Albion's next league game with MK Dons.
The Albion boss had hoped to clinch the signings of three new faces prior to the deadline - and did complete deals for Newcastle winger Kazenga LuaLua and Norwegian under-19 star Torbjorn Agdestein.
Both are ineligible for tomorrow night's Johnstone's Paint Trophy match with Leyton Orient, as they signed after the midday cut-off, but they will be available for the League One fixture with MK Dons on Saturday week.
Meanwhile Poyet has exclusively revealed to seagulls.co.uk that his third and final proposed deal could still be concluded in time for the same match.
He said, "We have been working very hard today, and the news the fans will be pleased to hear is that we have a deal already in the pipeline for a new striker; we hope to complete this ahead of the next league game.
"It's been a very hectic day with a lot going on; I am delighted to have finally completed the deal for Kaz; while Torbjorn is an exciting prospect for the future."
Poyet has the option of using short-term loans ahead of the MK Dons fixture, as the loan window reopens in one week's time - but the Albion boss admitted he will only use it sparingly.
He added, "I am not a huge fan of short-term loans, but it is something we will have to look at over the next week and consider whether we want to use it.
"The problem is that loaning clubs have an instant recall after 28 days. Maybe we can do something, where we agree to sign players when the window reopens, but I am not a fan of having an instant recall hanging over us."
