Art Competition Deadline Extended

Posted on: Wed 22 Sep 2010

The Albion are extending the deadline of the club's trailblazing new initiative to give budding local artists, including Albion fans, the opportunity to leave their mark on the fabulous new American Express Community Stadium.

Interested parties now have until 30th September to submit their entries for the competition to win the chance to decorate the public concourses within arena

The club, together with the local council and stadium architects KSS, is inviting artists, schools and colleges to put forward proposals on how they would make the public areas in the stadium unique.

Club chief executive Martin Perry explained, "One of the conditions of our planning permission for the stadium is that we have to provide a piece of art for display in or around the stadium.

"This could be a painting or perhaps a statue of a favoured Albion legend, but we had the idea that instead of one item, it would be great fun to decorate the concourses with Albion images created by fans, local artists or groups organised by schools or colleges.

"There are four main concourses serving each of the home stands and these present unique opportunities for artists to develop and produce images to make these areas very special for fans. We have themed them and the work will be grouped in each concourse."

The four themes are: Albion Moments - special moments or history; Albion Legends & Fans; Albion Friends & Family; and Albion in the City. Submissions of interest are required by the end of September.

Perry added, "We can accept works of art in any media - the only limitation is that it must be flat or capable of being photographed so that we can print it and apply it to the walls in the concourses.

"We want to make the concourses very Albion friendly and we are hoping this will become a talking point for supporters."

Artists are invited to send in an expression of interest to include a CV demonstrating relevant experience for any or all of the four commissions along with a short covering statement detailing the approach that might be taken.

The deadline for receipt of these is 30th September 2010 and they are to be sent to:

Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club
The Project Office
Withdean Stadium
Tongdean Lane
Brighton BN1 5JD

A panel consisting of representatives of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, club architects and stadium designers KSS, and Brighton and Hove City Council will make a shortlisted selection from the expressions of interest.

Shortlisted entrants will be invited for a short interview, and the work would need to be completed for reproduction by 15th April 2011. Further technical details are available by clicking here.
