Gus Poyet has played down the fracas that brought a premature end to Albion's final Portuguese friendly, but praised his players' temperaments and their togetherness, after they came through a bruising 68-minute encounter with La Liga 1 side Portimonense.
The Albion boss said, "The togetherness was the best part. It is difficult to draw positives, when the match almost ended with a fight, but everyone reacted very well together.
"Some stayed in the middle to defuse it - but everyone was together which shows that we have become close over this week. We were worried for each other and that is good for a team.
"Nothing really happened, but there had been a lot of friction. It is a shame for the fans who have supported us in such high numbers out here, but I am sure they appreciated there was not a lot else we could have done in the situation.
"We were walking back to our positions because the players wanted to play, but we looked around and the referee was walking off. That said, it was probably a good decision because it was difficult to continue with the game when that had happened."
Despite a disappointing final game, Poyet is delighted with the week's training camp in Albufeira; his side trailed 2-0 when the referee abandoned the match, and the Albion boss put that down to the hard work he has seen on the training pitch.
"I expect they were tired because yesterday was a very hard day for the players. We now go back to England for a normal week where we will train just once a day - just to make sure we have our full energy back for the beginning of the season."
