Albion left-back Jimmy McNulty has rejoined Championship side Scunthorpe United on a six-month loan deal.
McNulty's opportunities have been limited since he recovered from major surgery, after a severe kidney injury in the match against Crewe Alexandra in February 2009.
He spent part of last on loan with the Championship side, joining in March and staying until the end of the season, making three appearances for the Iron.
Manager Gus Poyet said, "There is a lot of competition in defence, particularly at left-back with Marcos Painter's arrival from Swansea City, and Jim is keen to play regular first-team football.
"He also has the opportunity of regular Championship football, but he still has two seasons left on his contract with us and we will monitor his progress with Scunthorpe."
McNulty joined Albion for £150,000 from Stockport County during the January 2009 transfer window, putting pen-to-paper on a three-and-a-half year deal.
However, McNulty has endured a difficult time at the Seagulls, as after only his fifth appearance for the club he suffered a horrific injury.
The Liverpool-born defender underwent major surgery to remove his kidney and was out of action for over eight months, before returning to the side in the club's Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie at Leyton Orient in October 2009.
Meanwhile, Jamie Smith has signed a new one-year deal with the club. He joined Albion from Crystal Palace on a free transfer last summer and produced a string of impressive performances for the reserves last season.
