Sparrow: Poyet Factor was Key

Albion's latest signing Matt Sparrow today revealed that Gus Poyet was a major factor in luring him to the club.

The former Scunthorpe midfield-engine put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal this afternoon after passing his medical this morning, and is now looking forward to playing under the guidance of the former Chelsea and Tottenham star.

He told seagulls.co.uk, "He [Poyet] was definitely a factor. I've heard good things about him and everyone has praised him so he is definitely one of the main reasons for me coming here. To work under Gus Poyet is a privilege.

"There's been a few twists over the last few weeks but it's nice to finally sign the paperwork and move down here.

"Now I've signed I can get settled and I can't wait to get the kit on and get involved in pre-season training.

"The fans can expect loads of energy from me, aggression in the middle of the park and hopefully I will pop up with some goals."

The 28-year-old has won three promotions during his 11-year career at Scunthorpe, and is hoping to bring the same winning mentality to Albion.

He said, "It was time for me to leave Scunthorpe and Brighton is definitely the club to be at. The club is a sleeping giant with the new stadium a year away - which looks fantastic.

"There is also a great team spirit here, which I can already see. It'll be a big challenge but I'm confident we can push for promotion."
