Argentinian pair Agustin Battipiedi and Cristian Baz believe they have been handed a golden opportunity by Gus Poyet, after signing a one-year deal with the Albion.

The young midfielders were spotted by the Albion boss playing for Comunicaciones in Buenos Aires during the close-season, and are now eager to join Albion's assault on League One.

Central-midfielder Battipiedi told seagulls.co.uk, "We came here because we think it's a great opportunity. This is an amazing chance and we think the football here is so respected all around the world.

"From my point of view, England has the best football in the world, better than the Spanish and Italian leagues because there is a lot of competition among very good players. We think it's one of the most beautiful places for playing football.

"We are now looking forward to the first match, and getting to know everyone during pre season. It will be amazing.

"Gus Poyet is a great guy. We have been talking with him and Mauricio, who told us this is a great opportunity for us to play here, in a good team, and we are going to try and help the team into the Championship."

Meanwhile, Baz is also looking forward to playing under the guidance of former Uruguayan international Poyet.

He added, "My dad has told me what a great player Gus Poyet was, and how he loved playing good football. So it's a big opportunity to come and play at this big club, and at this level.

"English football is good to watch and looks good to be involved in. It's one of the best leagues in the world, so I'm aiming to be first choice and do great things here."

Albion fans can expect the 20-year-old Battipiedi to play in a central-midfield role, while 23-year-old Baz is a left-sided midfielder, who can also play in attack.
