Alan Navarro is determined to get a proper pre-season under his belt after two consecutive summers without the right preparations.
Two years ago while at MK Dons the cultured midfielder had his pre-season disrupted when his baby boy was born prematurely, and the following summer he was without a club having been released by the Dons.
Russell Slade eventually brought Navarro to the Albion in early August last year, but the Liverpudlian always felt he was playing catch-up in terms of his fitness.
He told seagulls.co.uk, "I've missed two pre-seasons now and this time I want to get a good one behind me before we go into the new season.
"Two years ago my baby arrived prematurely and I missed pre-season because of that.
"Then last season I was released from MK Dons and didn't come here until late, so I missed most of pre-season that way as well.
"So I'm determined to get a good one under my belt this time and get off to a better start than in recent years."
Meanwhile Navarro admits Andrew Crofts's departure to Norwich will leave a massive gap to fill, but says many of the Albion players weren't surprised to learn that the midfielder was leaving for new pastures following his superb form throughout the campaign.
"It was a mixed reaction really because people were expecting things to happen for him because he'd had such a good season.
"He was our captain and led by example, so it's going to be a big miss for us.
"The gaffer will probably be trying to replace him, but there's still me and Gary (Dicker) in there, and few of the other lads can play there as well, so it will be interesting to see what happens."
