Poyet Praises Special Duo

Gus Poyet tonight praised 'special' duo Elliott Bennett and Peter Brezovan following their star performances in Albion's 2-0 win at Oldham.

Bennett set the Seagulls on their way with an incredible first-half strike, while Brezovan made a vital double-stop and a penalty save to secure an impressive shut-out.

Poyet said, "To be honest it wasn't one of our greatest performances, but it was important to win today.

"How nice is it to win and keep a clean sheet without playing well? I think it is very important for the team and for the future.

"We needed something special today. Some players were not at their best, but we needed to be resilient and we needed to be solid, and we needed someone to stand out from the rest. Today that was the goal from Elliott and the save from Peter have us those high levels.

"Elliott's goal was outstanding and must be the goal of the weekend. It would need to be something very special to beat that. It is the sort of shot that you totally forgive your goalkeeper for, because it was unstoppable.

"There were key moments in the game. The goal; starting the second half much better when we really started playing our game and took control; the degree of luck that gave us the second goal, but one that we totally deserved at that time; and the save of the game. I don't think you will see a better penalty save than that from Peter today."

Meanwhile, time is running out for Poyet to decide whether to dip into the loan market to find cover for Brezovan.

The loan window closes on Thursday, but Poyet says his task is difficult with Brezovan in such fine form, any player coming to the club cannot be guaranteed a first-team place.

Poyet explained, "We have plenty of options but it depends what you are looking for.

"Most available goalkeepers just want to come and play and with due respect to them, and it doesn't matter where they are coming from, with Peter in his current form they have no chance of that."

Poyet decided not to risk Diego Arismendi (thigh) and Chris Holroyd (hamstring), but the Uruguayan expects to have the pair available for next Saturday's home match with Tranmere Rovers.
