Albion's under-18s cruised to a 4-0 home win against Barnet on Saturday, but boss Steve Brown insists there is still plenty of room for improvement.

George Barker opened the scoring midway through the first half as he latched onto a poor clearance from Bees keeper Lamar Johnson. Barker controlled the ball 35 yards out before curling the ball into the empty net.

The lead was doubled minutes later when Lee Cooper unleashed a powerful low drive from the edge of the area into the far corner.

Conor Hider was brought into the attack at half time, replacing Leon Redwood who fell ill, and made an instant impact as he finished Albion's third goal with the best move of the match.

George Barker dropped deep to pick up the ball and slotted a neat pass through for Ryan Thomson to latch onto from midfield. Thompson drew the defender and cut the ball across the six yard line for Hider to tap into the empty net.

Barker then scored a solo effort to seal the result with his second of the day. He picked up the ball on the edge of the area, twisted and turned off both feet, before drilling the ball home right-footed.

Barnet did however create a few chances with some good passages of play, hitting the woodwork twice but the Albion defence stood strong to keep their third clean sheet in fours games.

Brown told seagulls.co.uk, "The scoreline is great but it's not all about the result for me and Vic [Bragg]. We tried to change our style of play a bit but it didn't come out.

"The lads are pleased with the result as they should be, and the club should be pleased, but as coaches we are looking deeper, however it's a good time to be unhappy when you win 4-0!

"Also, that's another clean sheet and we are defending very well. We have had very few chances against us in the last few games, so that side of us is excellent."

The youth team are back in action on Wednesday when they entertain Gillingham at the University of Sussex (2pm).

Albion: (4-4-2) Godfrey; Cooper, Sheriff, Hall, Smith (Bolwell 20); Hayward, Wilkins, Thomson, Caskey (Woodley 70); Redwood (Hider 46), Barker. Subs not used: Strong, James (GK).
