Penalty Heartache for Under-18s

Albion's under-18s crashed out of the Youth Alliance Cup on Saturday after losing 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out at QPR.

Leon Redwood hit an emphatic equaliser with seconds remaining to cancel out Javonne Molloy's opener for the Londoners, sending the tie straight to a shoot-out.

And although Lee Cooper, Lewis Dunk and Redwood converted from 12 yards, Ryan Thomson and James Smith saw their efforts saved by Rangers keeper Nikki-Lee Bulmer to book the Londoners a place in the section semi-final against Exeter City.

Youth team boss Steve Brown said, "It's always heartbreaking to lose a tie on penalties, but as I told the boys afterwards, we lost that game during the 90 minutes, not in the shoot-out.

"We had enough chances in the game to put the tie beyond QPR, but to be fair they will probably be thinking the same thing.

"QPR were big and strong and pressurised the ball well, but when we did manage to play we played very well. I would like to see us do that for the full 90 minutes, not just for short spells."

Albion: (4-4-2) James; Cooper, Dunk, Hall, Bolwell; Hayward, Wilkins (Strong 84), Thomson, Smith; Redwood, Barker (Hider 80). Subs: Godfrey (GK), Woodley, Sheriff.
