Albion's Reserves enjoyed a convincing 4-1 victory against Millwall in front of new manager Gus Poyet at Culver Road tonight.
The result maintains the second-string's unbeaten record this season, and further good news saw last year's player of the season, Andrew Whing, come through unscathed in an 80 minute outing.
Albion dominated the opening minutes and came close to scoring with James Tunnicliffe narrowly heading over the bar on two occasions.
It was then Matt Thornhill's chance to come close, firing a half volley against the post from the edge of the area.
The breakthrough came on the ten minute mark after some neat work down the left from Kevin McLeod, who squared for Gary Hart to dispatch left-footed past ex-team mate John Sullivan and into the roof of the net.
The home side came close to doubling their lead soon after, again McLeod breaking down the left and cutting the ball back to Craig Davies, who struck the ball against the post from six yards out.
Against the run of play the visitors got back into the game on the half hour mark through Hassan Jennah. A one two between Jennah and Ashley Grimes created space in the Albion defence for Jennah to slide the ball past Tom Godfrey to equalise.
Soon after half-time Albion restored their lead through McLeod. Liam Dickinson brought the ball down on the edge of the area and laid off to McLeod, who shot from 20 yards finding the bottom corner after a deflection off Dickinson.
Davies then made it 3-1 in the 70th minute when he headed Dickinson's cross into the top corner.
Millwall were given a lifeline soon after with a bewildering penalty, but Godfrey made a great save low to his right to maintain Albion's two-goal cushion.
With ten minutes remaining Albion put the game out of sight with the pick of the night. A great passing move between Hart, Whing and Davies allowed Thornhill to drill the ball in to the net.
Albion: (4-4-2) Godfrey; Whing (Cook 78), Livermore, Tunnicliffe, Wright; Navarro, Hart, Thornhill, McLeod (Brinkhurst 80); Dickinson (Barker 82), Davies. Subs not used: Jamie Smith, James (GK).
