Albion's reserves eased into the third round of the Sussex Senior Cup with a 5-1 win against Southwick at Culver Road.

George Barker bagged a first-half brace, while goals after the break from Jamie Smith, Conor Hider and Lewis Ide ensured Albion's progress.

Barker opened the scoring in the 18th minute when he headed home from Hider's cross.

The Seagulls striker then doubled his tally six minutes before half-time when he effortlessly controlled Steve Brinkhurst's inch-perfect cross,  before sliding the ball past Southwick keeper Sam Harding.

The visitors, who had earlier come close when Sam Page volleyed straight at Josh Pelling, did pull one back shortly before the break when James Wotherspoon slotted past the on-rushing Albion keeper.

Smith increased Albion's lead 16 minutes into the second half with a curling free-kick after Hider had been hacked down on the edge of the area, before Hider made it 4-1 with a powerful drive from 18 yards that crept inside the far post.

With the seconds ticking away, Ide completed the scoring from close range after good work on the right from Brinkhurst.

Albion: (4-4-2) Pelling; Hall, Cook, Dunk, James Smith; Brinkhurst, Ide, Jamie Smith, Redwood; Barker, Hider. Subs not used: Godfrey (GK), Wilkins, Cooper, Thomson, Strong.
