Albion reserves kicked off the season in style, beating Leyton Orient 3-1 at Brisbane Road, thanks to a brace from Gary Hart and one goal from Craig Davies - and the front pair's performance delighted watching assistant boss Dean White.
White said, "As a pair, Harty and Craig absolutely terrorised Orient all afternoon. Their pace and movement at times was too much for them, and in all it was an excellent, professional performance from the whole team."
The Seagulls fell behind against the run of play in the first half, with Loick Piers converting a penalty on 32 minutes, but Hart restored parity just before half-time.
Racing onto a long through ball from Colin Hawkins, the Albion striker calmly slotted home to level the scores in first-half stoppage time.
Hart, who has been hampered by injury for the first few weeks of the season, doubled his tally in the second half, but not before Davies put Albion in front on 55 minutes.
The speedy striker used pace and power to get the better of Os defender Elliott Babbs on the left, and then drove a powerful low drive across Orient keeper Jack Giddens and into the bottom corner of the net.
The pick of the goals was Hart's second, poucing just outside the box, he let fly with a terrific effort into the top corner of Giddens' goal to complete a comfortable and well-deserved victory for Albion.
The victory could have been more emphatic, but for home keeper Giddens, who denied, amongst other saves, denied scholar George Barker late in the game.
