Full Time: AFC Wimbledon 0 Albion 2
Another good pre-season test for the Albion with 22 players given a run-out. The scoreline possibly flattered the Seagulls in the end as the home side put up a great fight, but manager Russell Slade will be satisfied with the overall performance given where we are in pre-season. Next up is Crawley on Friday night.
89: GOAL! Virgo puts the result beyond doubt. Cox's corner was headed down by Crofts and Virgo was first to the second ball to ram it home from eight yards.
86: Another great chance for the Dons. This time it is Main who is guilty of profligacy as he sees his header zip past the right hand upright. Kuipers' body language suggests that the Dutchman had it covered though.
85: Main puts in a great cross that finds the Albion defence all at sea. The ball beats Kuipers and the two centre backs, but Lewis Taylor somehow slots wide when the net is gaping.
75: While the deficit remains a single goal, AFC Wimbledon clearly still feel they can get something out of this game. A storming left-footed shot from Chris Hussey only just clears the crossbar as the Dons surge forward.
68: Davies bursts into the penalty area under immense pressure from two Dons defenders. He is clearly fouled but shows great poise to stay on his feet, albeit at the cost of losing control of the ball. Ironically it was this mobility that probably leads to referee Singh refuting the subsequent penalty claim.
66: Albion win a free-kick 30 yards out. Dickinson adopts taking duties and fires a powerful shot only narrowly wide.
62: Mass change for AFC Wimbledon. Looks like seven or eight simultaneous replacements - hard to tell as the referee's assistant gave up trying to manipulate the numbers board! Given that they only named eight subs and one came on at half-time, I'm going to opt for the former.
60: Another Brighton substitute. The long-throwing Steve Cook replaces Livermore at left-back.
59: Dean Cox enters the fray to replace goal-scorer McLeod, who has had a great game tonight.
55: Great cross from McLeod finds Davies in space but the striker is not able to accurately target his header. Best chance of the second half so far though.
53: Mark Wright comes onto the field to replace youngster Brinkhurst.
51: A penetrating cross from Sam Hatton is sliced only just over his own crossbar by Livermore as AFC Wimbledon threaten again. Naturally, we'll give the Albion utility player the benefit of the doubt and put it down as a great block.
49: Kuipers nearly nets his first ever goal for the Albion! Another long clearance bounces high in the penalty-area, clears Dickinson, clears Wilkinson and hits the top of the crossbar. The Dutchman is devastated.
47: A long mazy run from half-time substitute Jon Main down the left wing results in a fierce shot that drifts only just wide of Kuipers' left hand post.
46: Immediate chance for Dickinson. Long kick from Kuipers bounces high into the penalty area. Dickinson choose to control and pass instead of attempting to chip over Wilkinson.
Eight changes at half-time for the Albion. On come Michel Kuipers; Andy Whing at right-back; Adam Virgo and Tommy Elphick at centre backs; Gary Dicker and Andrew Crofts in the centre of midfield and Craig Davies and Liam Dickinson up front.
37: GOAL! McLeod puts the Albion 1-0 ahead with a fiercely driven shot from the angle of the penalty area that burrowed low into the right hand bottom corner of the net. Good work by Hart during the build-up.
35: Danny Kedwell tests Smith with a curling shot from the edge of the penalty area. The Seagulls stopper is more than equal to the task though.
35: The Brighton substitutes (second half squad?) emerge from the dressing room to commence their warm up with fitness coach Matt Miller. Warm applause as they jog past the travelling Albion faithful.
16: The rapid burst of action continues here at Kingsmeadow as Hart times his run well to get on the end of a Murray flick-on. Wilkinson is again forced into action to prevent the Albion lifer from notching up his second goal of pre-season.
15: AFC Wimbledon get in on the act. Smith has to get down smartly to his right to deprive Derek Duncan, whose 25 yard free-kick was heading for the bottom corner.
14: McLeod fires in a stinging shot from 20 yards that Wilkinson does well to parry away.
13: First chance for Albion, albeit a half-one. Spiller latches on to a loose ball just outside the Dons' area. His scuffed shot picks up a deflection and rolls past the right hand post with goalkeeper David Wilkinson forced into a watching brief.
TEAM NEWS
As with many of the pre-season friendlies to date, Russell Slade has named a large squad - 23 tonight - and I expect the majority of them will get some sort of a run-out tonight.
Albion kick-off in a conventional 4-4-2 formation with Adam El-Abd at right-back, and David Livermore on the opposite side. Inbetween them sit Colin Hawkins and James Tunnicliffe.
In midfield, Steve Brinkhurst and Kevin McLeod fill the right and left flanks respectively, while upfront lie Glenn Murray and Gary Hart. The man in black is a familiar face to Brighton fans, Jarnail Singh from London.
Albion : (4-4-2) Graeme Smith (Kuipers, 46); El-Abd (Whing, 46), Tunnicliffe (Virgo, 46), Hawkins (Elphick, 46), Livermore (Cook, 60); Brinkhurst (Wright, 55), Navarro (Dicker, 46), Spiller (Crofts, 46), McLeod (Cox, 59); Hart (Davies, 46), Murray (Dickinson, 46). Sub not used: Jamie Smith.
Referee: Jarnail Singh (London)
