Albion held the league leaders to a goalless draw tonight after a resolute display at the Walkers Stadium.
Wearing Leicester's yellow away shirt after referee Craig Pawson decided Albion's navy and yellow shirt would clash with the Foxes' royal blue, Albion matched the table toppers and fully deserved their share of the spoils from tonight's encounter.
Micky Adams, returning to his former club, employed a 4-5-1 system with the aim of subduing the division's top side. And it worked, with Leicester reduced to just two chances in the first half.
The first was of Matty Fryatt's own making, cutting inside after getting the better of Adam Hinshelwood, but John Sullivan got down smartly to smother the striker's shot.
The second came out of nothing, and were it not for a world class piece of goalkeeping from Albion's rookie keeper, the home side would have been ahead on the half-hour mark.
Andy King's speculative effort deflected off Tommy Elphick and looped 25 yards onto the Albion crossbar. Sullivan looked to have lost his bearings as the ball rebounded into the path of Fryatt, but instinctively he stuck out his right arm to turn away the striker's stooping header. It was an exhilarating moment and it kept the Seagulls in the game.
As the half wore on Albion grew in stature and began to create the odd chance of their own.
Nicky Forster's low shot had David Martin scrambling low to his left just before the interval, while shortly after the break, David Hobbs almost repeated his own goal shenanigans at Withdean earlier in the season when he turned Dean Cox's cross goalwards, only to see it hit Martin in the Leicester goal.
It was Leicester though, who controlled most of the possession here, but Albion's rearguard action was so determined that the home side created few clear cut chances.
However, Sullivan produced another top drawer save, this time low to his left to keep out Paul Dickov's diving header
And with seconds remaining, Albion got the bit of luck their spirited display deserved, when Tom Cleverley crossed low and Fryatt fired over the bar from 12 yards.
