Adams Not Downcast After Defeat

Although bitterly disappointed with the scoreline, Micky Adams refused to be downhearted after the 4-1 home defeat against Scunthorpe.
He said afterwards, "We've been beaten by a very good team. I said before the game and tried to get the message across to the players that they're a very good side.
"They're big and physical and for large parts of the game we were out-muscled by a bigger and stronger unit than ours. Individually we were second best all over the pitch.
"To go 2-0 down before half-time was disappointing, but then we need to get the next goal. We started the second half very brightly, we got players on the ball and we created some chances today.
"In terms of chances in the first few games at Withdean we've probably created more today than we have in the other games, which is disappointing. But we'll pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and get on with it.
"While we've lost a game heavily today I refuse to be downcast. It's a long season."
The transfer window for loan signings opens on Monday, and Adams admits he may look to strengthen the squad when he gets chance.
"I think there are areas in the team that need to be improved.
"The fans can see that, I can see that and the chairman and board of directors can see it. Until (the transfer window) opens up again everybody will have to be patient like I am.
"The boys have given me everything in terms of effort and enthusiasm to a point, but as I already said, I thought we were out-muscled today. There weren't enough brave people, we got shoved off the ball on numerous occasions and that's not good enough."
