Wilkins: Let's Put It Behind Us

By Tim Dudding

Albion boss Dean Wilkins was pleased with his side's display against Leeds, and says his side must now maintain the level of performance in future games.

He said, "Some of the quality of our play at times was exciting, it was fast, it was direct and I can't see how we could play too much better than that and come off the pitch with zero points.

"I've said to the team forget about the three points we have lost now and if we just concentrate of producing that sort of performance week in and week out then we will not be too far away.

"We are getting more consistent but there is still work to be done. There will always be work to be done, even if we were top of the league or in a similar position to Leeds then there would still be work to be done. It is looking increasingly more promising however.

"The young players are increasing in maturity and they will need to continue to grow in that way throughout the season."

Wilkins was without midfield duo Dean Cox and George O'Callaghan, but he was more than satisfied with their replacements, David Martot and Tommy Fraser.

"Tommy Fraser and David Martot did exactly what I thought they would be capable of doing," he explained.

"I felt that when we introduced David in the first couple of games after he arrived I thought it was a bit of a culture shock for him and so I felt that the right thing to do was to put him on the bench for a couple of games and for him to watch a few games at pitch level.

"I thought it was the right time to reintroduce him today and I felt that he did a good job for us.

"Tom Fraser is somebody who you can always rely on to do his best and to carry out the instructions he is given to the best of his ability and I felt he did a sterling job with Dean Hammond in the middle of the field. Because of his character it was an easy decision to make to bring him in."
