Seagulls Learning Centre

Albion in the Community's award winning Study Support Centre for adult learning at Withdean was expanded in January 2006 to create a new "out of school" learning area, the Seagulls Learning Centre.

The Centre is equipped with ICT facilities and offers a welcoming environment that lends itself to study support. It seeks to involve both pupils and their families via open evenings and presentation evenings. Albion first team players often attend to meet the pupils, and the centre also works with Albion's football development coaches to organise complimentary football training sessions and special events such as the Beach Soccer tournament.

Playing For Success Programme
The centre offers the Playing For Success (PFS) programme, which is a government funded after-school project for pupils at Key Stage 2 and 3. PFS is based at sports clubs nationally with the aim of boosting greater academic achievement by using the pull of a sport as its inspiration to motivate pupils aged 9-13 with their schoolwork, and thus raise general educational standards. Since 1997 PFS has grown to become a highly successful "after school" study support programme, taken up by over 100 major clubs around the country including football, cricket, basketball and rugby.

In Brighton, the PFS programme is offered in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council for local schools. It forms an important part of the club's work in the community, giving youngsters the opportunity to attend the exciting environment of their local sports club and gain greater understanding and confidence within three key skills areas:

- Literacy
- Numeracy
- Information & Communication Technology (ICT)

The centre can accommodate up to 800 children a year, from up to 40 Brighton & Hove schools. Pupils attend short weekly programmes in groups of up to 20 learners. The PFS curriculum provides opportunities for children to raise their achievements and expectations, to realise greater scope and take more responsibility for their learning.
