Albion in the Community is staging two Schools' World Cup tournaments, involving 35 school teams in Brighton and East Sussex.
The multi-award winning community initiative of the Albion has been running Primary School tournaments for the past four years, but to coincide with the FIFA World Cup in South Africa each school has been assigned a World Cup participating nation's theme for the tournament.
The teams will also be kitted out in the colours representative of their adopted nation. Each school will also produce a classroom project created by the pupils to investigate, discuss and present that country's culture.
The first of the tournaments took place last Friday, and included year five and six boys & girls, at Silverdale School, St Leonards. The Brighton & Hove tournament will include year three and four boys & girls on Wednesday June 9th at Patcham Junior School.
The winners of each tournament are awarded a replica of the famous World Cup trophy, as well as tickets to watch Brighton & Hove Albion at Withdean early in the 2010/11 season. The class room projects will be judged by AITC representatives, and the most impressive portfolio in each of the two regions will also win Albion tickets.
