Albion in the Community is offering local unemployed people two learning and support into work programmes: Personal Best and Community Sports Leaders Course.

Both initiatives are part of AITC's nationally accredited and funded programme, Stepping Stones to Employment, which includes training, CV and job interview skills, plus a volunteering opportunity, leading to a national qualification.

Volunteer opportunities are a great way to help unemployed individuals, giving them valuable work experience and the confidence needed to progress to paid employment.

Creating a volunteer placement opportunity lasting as little as ten hours could change someone's life without costing a penny to the business or organisation offering the placement.

It is an ideal opportunity for employers to assess potential employees without any long-term commitment, and also a chance to give back to the community by helping to break the routine of work inactivity present in so many families and deprived neighbourhoods.

Albion in the Community learners enrolling on the Personal Best Pre-Volunteer Course to study a series of modules inspired by the 2012 Olympics, designed to build self confidence, and improve interpersonal and communication skills.

On successful completion of the course, students gain a Level 1 qualification. Those studying the Community Sports Leaders Award develop teamwork and organisational skills, plus community and sports leadership strategies leading to a Level 2 qualification. While these courses are delivered via a sports context, the skills that they develop are essential life skills transferable to any industry and work place where communication and organisational qualities are required.
