Junior Tournament A Success
Albion In The Community staged another successful 7 a-side football tournament for Brighton & Hove junior school children on 5 June at Westdene Primary School, Brighton, in what is set to become an annual fixture. Nearly 100 children from seven local primary schools participated this year, including: Balfour Juniors, Cottesmore, St Andrew's, St Bernadette's, St Joseph's, Stanford Juniors and Westdene Schools.
Each school was allowed a squad of 12 boys and girls from years 3 and 4, with everyone getting the chance to play, thanks to the roll on/roll off substitution system.
Albion In The Community organised the event, supplying seven coaches, each in charge of managing one squad. This allowed parents and teachers to enjoy the action and cheer their team on. The event consisted of a one-league format. All the teams played extremely well, but the league was topped by St Andrews and Stanford Juniors, each having a total of 13 points. The top two played each other in the final, with St Andrew's just pipping Stanford to win the Albion Tournament Trophy 7-6 on penalties following a goalless draw.
Larry May, Albion In The Community's Football & Multi Sports Development Manager said, "We ran a Brighton & Hove junior schools' fun tournament for the first time last year. This year it has again proved to be a huge success, very much enjoyed by all the children who took part and the parents who watched. All the schools want us to run it again next year."
