Albion celebrated further achievements in education on Saturday 14 April, with the presentation of certificates to our first successful group of BTEC Sports students who qualified with us last year. The Albion's adult education programme is now in its fifth year based at Withdean, and forms a major part of the club's award winning Albion In The Community initiative.
Thousands of adult learners have benefited from a range of flexible learning programmes including maths, English and computer lessons, as well as sports and health courses. The BTEC National Award In Sport course covers basic principals of sports and sports development and leads to a nationally recognised qualification in sport, which is the equivalent of one A Level.
The club is the only learning centre in Brighton to offer this course, and it is the first football club in the country to offer A Level standard courses to the general public.

All our students in the first group passed the course, and they included 2 Distinctions and 4 Merit grades. As a result of their achievements with us, the students have been able to progress further with their studies or their careers in sport, with 4 students are currently doing a Foundation Degree In Sport at the University Of Brighton, and 2 more due to start later this year. Many of the group have gone on to complete their football coaching qualifications with the Albion and have been offered work in our community coaching programmes, working in local schools across Sussex.
Presenting the certificates at half time during the Brighton v Bradford match were Martin Perry, Chief Executive of Brighton & Hove Albion FC, and Dr Alan Sanders, in charge of education programmes at the Albion. Our successful BTEC Sports students were:Joao Arranhado, Tom Austen, Anna Barrett, Kevin Bellairs, Matt Hicks, Rick Holden, Dan Jackson, Kevin Mudie, Justin Parker, Luke Tyler, Sam Wilson. Many congratulations to all for their hard work and excellent achievements.
