  • Albion are next in action away at Chelsea on Saturday

Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-18s recovered from a goal down to win 2-1 against Tottenham Hotspur at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre on Saturday.

Goals from Stefan Ljubicic and a second-half winner from Charlie Ferguson were enough to claim all three points and cancel out Samuel Shashoua's opener.

Ljubicic almost gave Albion an early lead when he made a driving run to the edge of the box and saw his subsequent shot take a deflection, before being saved by Tottenham goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman.

Keanan Bennetts came close to giving Spurs the lead when he delivered a low driven cross across the box, but Shashoua couldn’t get on the end of the ball at the far-post.

But Shashoua gave Tottenham the lead in the 40th minute after getting past two markers with a Cruyff turn, played a one-two with Reo Griffiths and fired the ball past Billy Collings.

The Seagulls equalised two minutes before half time thanks to Ljubicic. Isaac Hutchinson picked up the loose ball and saw his shot saved by Whiteman, before Ljubicic slotted home the rebound.

Dylan Duncan forced Brighton keeper Collings into a good save shortly after the re-start, with a long-range effort from 25-yards out.

Just moments later, Danny Barker should have put the hosts ahead from inside the six-yard box. Hamish Morrison’s cross found him at the far-post, but his snap-shot sent the ball over the bar.

Albion got their second and decisive goal through Ferguson in the 72nd minute, after he linked up well with Hutchinson and took the ball past three defenders before firing home into the roof of the net.

The goalscorer won possession in midfield and drove the ball forward, he then played a 1-2 with Hutchinson, before taking it past the defenders and placing the ball into the roof of the net.

ALBION: Collings; Morrison, Barker, Rolph, Cochrane; Fornah, Ferguson, Hutchinson; Davies, Ljubicic (Cashman 83), Meekums (O’Sullivan 14).
