Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-18s lost 3-1 to Chelsea at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre on Friday.
A goal each from Martell Taylor-Crossdale, Richard Nartey and Bradley Hudson-Odoi secured the West Londoners all three points, while Dan Cashman scored what proved to be a consolation strike for the Seagulls.
The first chance of the game came when Chelsea’s Reece James played a through ball up to Taylor-Crossdale, whose effort was parried to safety by Albion keeper Thomas McGill.
Albion then came close to breaking the deadlock when Danny Barker latched onto a loose ball, but his first-time shot was deflected just over the Chelsea goal.
But the deadlock was broken in the 20th minute, as Taylor-Crossdale picked up the ball and shot into the top left-hand corner
Taylor-Crossdale almost got his second, but on this occasion, his effort went just wide of the post after some good link-up play with Jacob Maddox.
Albion equalised thanks to Cashman, after he nodded home Archie Davies’s cross just three minutes before the break.
Seagulls’defender Owen Moore had to be alert to block Charlie Brown’s strike shortly after the re-start, while McGill made a low save to keep out another shot from the Chelsea player.
Chelsea captain Josh Grant twice came close to restoring their lead, after his header went over the bar and his right-footed strike hit the woodwork.
The Blues did score their second goal through Nartey, when he latched onto to substitute George McEachran’s set-piece and beat his marker at the far post with a diving header.
Hudson-Odoi secured the win for Chelsea, as he curled the ball past McGill to make the final score 3-1.
